So I recently did a few photoshoots for a local henna artist Akiyo (www.akiyohenna.com) ... this last one is my favorite design... i just wish it lasted more than a few weeks... i also wish i had the guts to have it tatooed on me

So I went to see my favorite non-bellydance related band this past Monday at Webster Hall: "She Wants Revenge"... and they were
*** AWESOME!!! ***
I've been obsessed with them for almost two years or so... and hearing my favorite songs live, raw... oh man... I dont remember screaming at a concert this much before... anyway... here's a link to one of my favorite songs by them...
this is gonna be so much fun for me to teach.... for now this is a two week special series, but we'll turn this into a regular class starting September
Monday August 13th and Monday August 20th from 7-8:30pm 440 Studios, room 3F on the 3rd floor 440 Lafayette between Astor Place and 4th Street
$25 for both classes, $15 for one
Come enjoy a fun and fast paced class that will focus on muscle toning, endurance, isolations, and technique. We will work on conditioning and precision from head to toe and also drill some fun new combinations to let those isolations and transitions really sink in. We've planned a fun array of exercises that draw from tribal, tribal fusion and cabaret bellydance, as well as yoga, pilates and beyond. This class is for intermediate and advanced dancers with experience in any or all of the styles mentioned above.

... brilliant! I personally dont enjoy an overwhelming majority of the Gothic Bellydance performances. Usually these numbers have too much "drama" and suffer from lack of interesting choreographies (not to mention technique, but im not going to go into that rant)- too much repetition in the movement- partly because the songs used by the dancers are never ending melodramas (which are cool but not when you are stuck watching three dozen hip bumps to them). BUT Ariellah is fantastic! She has such a powerful presence, she does create an atmosphere without being corny... and her technique? Simply brilliant and crystal clear. I got to see her dance last year, and cant wait to see her in a few months again. Lovely girl
Donna Mejia! phenominal dancer... too bad i only got to take one workshop from her, when i was in California. the second half of the clip is incredibly powerful
For the last six months, I couldn't rest. One song inspired a choreography and I just could NOT get it out of my head. It was an idea for a quartet... so I got three more dancers to work with me on this project and last weekend my baby finally saw the light of day.
wow, i havent been here in awhile... things have been completely insane. Running around day and night, dancing, student government elections, trying to get an internship... personnal problems: life as usual. Bleh... I think stress is causing me to get all emotional. I'm obsessed with "She Wants Revenge":
i love that line: "Lovers hold hands to numb the pain, Gripping tightly to something that they will never own..."
and now back to work. hope everyone is doing well

”Summoning of the Muse” by Andrew Gonzalez. I love this guys’ work. Especially his latest pieces – most are painted in this grisaille-like style, monochromatic in a light, soft grayish-brown. It’s simply incredible. The lines are so clean, but not sharp. The ethereal glow he achieves: ah… no words. Look for yourself: http://www.sublimatrix.com/html/paintings.html# and this particular piece that’s above: I looooove the diagonal composition… the stylized hair… the poses are just awesome…
now i just cant seem to find music that would go perfect with this... hmm... this will bug me all day now!
